Wishing Poppy luck

Poppy is a three-year-old calico, a shy sweet girl who would likely blossom in a calm, patient home with an adult cat. The shelter felt our family could be a good match. As I always do, I wore a sweater Max loves, hoping his scent would help introduce both of us to her.

When the staff brought Poppy out, she ran, climbed to the top of the cat tree, and refused to come down. It was clear she was overwhelmed and not choosing me in that moment.

Although the staff mentioned that calicos are rare and often adopted quickly, I chose not to move forward. Poppy didn’t respond to Max’s scent, and bringing home a shy, fearful cat could have unsettled both her and Max.
