One morning, I spotted a pair of Northern Cardinals through the kitchen window. I picked up Max and hurried to the backyard. Luckily, they were still there.
Max locked his gaze onto the crown of the maple tree, completely absorbed in the singing. We usually only see a single cardinal perched there, so spotting a pair felt special.
I intentionally leave parts of our backyard a little messy, with wildflowers popping up here and there. The birds seem to love the messiness.
When we first moved here, we mostly saw American Robins. Now the cardinals have become regular visitors. We also get the occasional hummingbird and warbler stopping by for a drink.
