#471 Weight Loss
We were very concerned seeing Max’s rounded back turn bony in such a short time …
Max lost 4 pounds in less than one month last summer when he was on prescription medication and had a poor appetite. His back, once round and solid, had shrunk to two bony ridges near his hips. Though he remained in good spirits, wandering around the porch wearing a large cone and watching people pass by, we were very concerned.
At his checkup, the vet didn’t seem particularly worried. He explained that that the weight loss was not a major concern, because Max had weighed 22 pounds before treatment and had some weight to spare. Still, it was hard for us not to worry. I could feel the difference every time I picked him up.
Luckily, Max made a full recovery and regained the weight within two months. He has maintained his 22-pound weight ever since. Given his large frame and good health, we don’t consider Max overweight. To us, he just looks like Max.
