I collected two large parcels, packed in cardboard boxes, for our neighbour who are away on vacation. To keep Max from “inspecting” them, I quietly stored them in the laundry room.
One day, as I passed the laundry room, I found Max lounging against the door, with his paws poking through the gap underneath. Perhaps he had noticed that I’d been unusually cautious whenever I opened the laundry room lately. Or maybe he had picked up a different scent coming from inside.
It seems that the more I try to keep something from Max, the more curious he gets. So I let him in for a full inspection. He sniffed around the boxes for several minutes. When he is about to scratch one of the boxes, I said a firm “NO” and showed him the door. He walked away reluctantly. Surprisingly, he never returned to that room.
The laundry room is packed with things and normally stays closed. During Max’s early days at our home, though, he was very curious about it. Whenever I went in and out, he would peek inside. I even gave him a little supervised tour of the room. After that, his curiosity disappeared.
